Day 12: Cuiaba to Iguazu Falls
For those joining on the extension tour, you will fly from Cuiaba to Sao Paulo and onto Iguazu Falls airport where on arrival you will be collected and taken on a road transfer across the border of Argentina and onward to your superbly located hotel in the heart of Iguazú National Park, the Sheraton Iguazu. The park protects the vast majority of one of the most important forests south of the Amazon, the Interior Atlantic Forest. This forest is home to dozens of unique orchid species, small primates, rare bats and several endemic birds. Here the Iguazú River falls 70 meters, forming a fan of cascades with more than 250 individual waterfalls!
Day 13 & 14: Iguazu Falls
You have 2 full days to enjoy the wonders of this magnificent area with your guide. You will get to enjoy the falls to their fullest by strolling the park’s walkways and stopping at their many lookouts, where you will behold some spectacular views. These trails have been built at different levels, and visitors have a chance to see the falls from both above and below. There are at least 68 species of mammals that call Iguazu National Park home however they are tricky to see in the dense Atlantic forest and it is usually only comical bands of South American Coati and small troops of Capuchin Monkeys that entertain the mammal enthusiasts. Birding in Iguazu National Park is exceptional, a myriad of colourful birds live in Iguazú, including Surucua Trogon, Red-ruffed Fruitcrow, Blue Manakin, five species of Euphonias, and several species of Tanagers, all of which are commonly found here. You can also expect to see thousands of Great Dusky Swifts and several species of forest raptors, while the forest canopy is home to noisy flocks of parrots, parakeets, antwrens, and five species of toucans! The magic of the forest is further accentuated by the distinctive calls of species such as Solitary Tinamou, Spot-winged Wood-Quail, Tufted Antshrike and Southern Antpipit.
Day 15: Iguazú Falls to Sao Paulo and depart
This morning you have a very early start as you make your way back to the airport in time for your early departure flight back to Sao Paulo to connect with your flights home.
